The Schools Licence Agreement (SLA) offers qualifying primary and secondary schools flexible bundle pricing on all of the key Novell products. Qualifying educational institutions (see below) can participate in the SLA for as little as US$1,000 per year.

It is based on a points system, this is determined by the number of students (staff are not included), the number of Workstations and the number of products required.

The SLA contract, which is signed between the customer and Novell, has a term of one year and is renewable in one-year increments.

Qualifying educational institutions

Eligibility to purchase under Novell's academic pricing or academic licensing programs is limited to qualified educational institutions. Proof of status may be required upon execution of any licensing agreement. Qualified Educational Institutions are defined as:

• Schools and other educational institutions that are accredited or recognised and approved by the federal government or the appropriate local, state, or provincial government where they operate
• Supervisory organisations of qualified schools or other educational institutions, including state departments of education, boards of education, school district administrative offices, and local education authorities
• Libraries
• Non-profit museums
