Thinking of trialing Virtualisation in OES Linux?
Gordon, one of our
Novell engineers suggests the easiest way to do it is to create your
own virtual machine. Here’s how:
- If you do not have SLES 10 already, then
download OpenSUSE 10.2 from www.opensuse.org, it’s a free download
and is currently the latest version of the
software.
- Gordon chose to install it as a virtual
machine on a OpenSUSE 10.2 host.
- The instructions can be found at the
following link: http://www.novell.com/documentation/vmserver/index.html
- Just jump to the Basic
instructions\Setting up the VM Server.
- As an example of what might be suitable
the hardware he used was a Dell GX280 with 2GB of RAM
The only snag Gordon found was that after the
initial reboot "yast" failed to recognise CD2 of SLES 10, so he
replaced the cd after cd1 was "done" but before the Virtual Machine
rebooted and this worked fine.
ITS Feda can supply all your SUSE Linux licensing, support and training needs. Give Gordon a call on 0870 145 1600.
